“Unità Delta”

The “Unità Delta” project, initiated by MEP, is situated within the context of an increasing national and international emphasis on the intersection of art and business. This emphasis derives from the necessity for companies, operating in a knowledge- and innovation based economy, to cultivate not only technical expertise but also crucial soft skills such as adaptability and creativity. Furthermore, the growing significance of corporate social responsibility necessitates a focus on employee well-being and environmental impact.

Within this framework, MEP, in collaboration with artist Giulia Iacolutti and the cultural association ETRARTE, has undertaken a project centered on human capital, with the objective of exploring the concepts of alliance and collaboration through the methodology of relational art.

The artist integrated within the company team, facilitated a process of reflection and artistic creation among employees from various departments. Through dialogue and praxis, this process fostered a deeper understanding of concepts such as convergence and competence, culminating in the realization of a collective artwork entitled “Favilla”.

Favilla,” a steel and copper crossword puzzle constructed using company materials, equipment, and expertise, symbolizes the union of seemingly disparate elements: art and industry. This fusion underscores the value of collaboration. The artwork, permanently installed within the company’s premises, is intended to encourage reflection among employees and observers. By engaging with the piece, viewers are compelled to consider the definitions provided, prompting them to solve the puzzle and highlighting the role of contemporary art in posing pertinent questions rather than offering definitive answers.

Complementing “Favilla”, the artist created “Alleanze,” a photographic series by Ms. Iacolutti created for the MEP 2025 corporate calendar. These images, inspired by the core principles that emerged during the project, offer a sculptural and photographic interpretation of the thirteen lemmas that comprise the crossword puzzle’s solution.

They will be displayed within the company’s facilities as a testament to the collaborative journey undertaken. The “Unità Delta” project also involved Hattiva Lab, a social cooperative dedicated to providing socio-educational and support services for individuals with disabilities. Through a parallel process facilitated by the artist, this collaboration further explored the theme of alliance. The group, comprising eleven members, enriched the concept of alliance by introducing nuances related to friendship, equality, and mutual support.

These crucial aspects of individual well-being are often overlooked by those who, possessing “functional normalcy,” navigate their path toward perceived goals independently, failing to recognize the profound value of shared journeys, particularly those that are inclusive. This group, commencing with words, generated a series of graphic symbols, manually reproduced on recycled paper. These symbols will be incorporated into fifty-nine special editions of the MEP 2025 calendar, commemorating MEP’s fifty-nine years of operation.

The entirety of the “Unità Delta” project has been meticulously documented through video and photography to facilitate comprehensive storytelling. An informational session is planned to address the fiscal and financial benefits of art investment and to highlight the potential of artistic training programs as a component of corporate social responsibility initiatives. A concluding event at Casa Cavazzini, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Udine, will provide a platform for presenting the project’s outcomes and engaging in dialogue with other prominent organizations.

Beyond mere exemplification, “Unità Delta” powerfully demonstrates the capacity of art to stimulate creativity, foster constructive dialogue, unite, inspire, and reinforce cohesion within the corporate environment and the broader community. In doing so, it generates a positive and enduring impact.
